Apply your new knowledge from the course!

You have recently completed a course. Time to use your newly acquired knowledge! But what is the best way to do this? Research shows that only 40% of what is learned is put into practice immediately. After six months, only 25% of that knowledge is actively used, and after a year this has dropped to only 15%. That’s a shame! We are glad to give you a number of tips to ensure that your course has lasting results.

  1. Document what you have learned
This sounds more than logical, but often notes end up in a drawer or in a file folder that you never look at again. Collect all the information and documents you received during the course in a digital, central place and share them with colleagues. Summarize what is really useful for you and your team and provide insight into which knowledge you can apply where.
  2. Choose a specific application project
Choose one specific project where you can integrate your new knowledge step by step. This makes applying what you've learned much easier and gives you a clear goal.
  3. Monitor your progress
Record what you have applied in your work and how. This helps you to consciously continue to translate theory into practice. Also put reminders in your calendar so that you regularly check whether you can apply your new knowledge somewhere.
  4. Collaborate with colleagues
Did colleagues take the same course? Then work together to deepen your knowledge and discuss how you can use it in the workplace. Learning together strengthens your understanding and application of the material. You can also appoint a colleague as a transfer coach: that person is responsible for further transferring the new knowledge within the rest of the organization.
  5. Evaluate your learning goals
Project completed? Take the learning objectives you set at the beginning of the course and evaluate what you have achieved. What went well and where can you still improve? These are important lessons for a new project in which you can also apply the knowledge from the course.
  6. Make your knowledge visible
Show what you have learned in the workplace, explain how you have applied it in your work and actively present your knowledge in meetings. Talk about your insights with colleagues. This way you increase the impact of your knowledge and you can inspire others!
  7. Ask the trainer for help
Are you stuck or in doubt? Don't hesitate to ask your course trainer for help. Trainers can often provide additional support to help you apply the course material.
