Gain insight in grounding systems in high voltage networks and protection of power systems.
Grounding methods and their influence on applied protection principles
This topic provides knowledge about types of earthing systems in high-voltage networks. The analysis of the effect of earth resistance for different earthing systems is studied. The type of relay used for the protection of electrical power systems is studied. Attention is paid to maximumcurrent, differential, distance and Bucholtz protection of transformers and to the coordination of relays and selection of current transformers. Also the course offers insight in testing of protection relays, with RTDS as well as with Omicron.
The goals of the course are:
- acquire knowledge of typical grounding practices and how the grounding system affects the protection principles applied;
- acquire knowledge about how overcurrent, differential and distance protection is achieved;
- basic knowledge about some protection schemes;
- knowledge about testing protective relays by RTDS and Omicron.
This is a master lecture series from the Technical University, especially open to students of PAO Technology and Management. You attend the lectures together with regular students.
The lectures will be taught in English.
