Master lecture series: High Voltage DC

Physical challenges of HVDC power components

The behaviour of electric isolation in DC voltage is very different from behaviour in AC voltage. In seven lecturtes of approximately two hours these differences are explained elaborately. After that a tailored treatment of DC voltage follows:

  • Electrical fields
  • Structure and measurement of surface areas
  • Structure and measurement of space charge
  • Measurement of partial discharges
  • Physics of partial discharges
  • Lifespan and breakdown mechanisms
  • Test procedures

These subjects are treated on the basis of both non-energy applications (X-ray, TV,  etc.) as well as energy applications (HVDC-cable).

Result

You gain insight in the different aspects you are confronted with in the use of high DC voltages.

Intended for

This master lecture series is suitable for engineers (academic or higher education level) in electrical engineering or physics, who work with high DC voltage, both in energy al well as in non-energy applications.

This master lecture series is open to participants PAO Techniek en Management. Regular students of the TU will attend the lecture series too. The lectures will be taught in English.
